Neurosurgical Operations
The Southern Philippines Medical Center Division of Neurosurgery is designated as an Advanced Comprehensive Brain and Spine Care Center by the Department of Health. With its own neurosurgery-designated operating theater and minimally invasive surgery theater, the center is capable of the following:
Craniotomies for neurosurgical trauma, brain tumors (meningiomas, gliomas, medulloblastomas, schwannomas, etc.), stroke (including aneurysms and vascular malformations), infections (brain abscesses and empyema),Â
Awake craniotomies with neurostimulation and brain mapping
Complex skull base surgeries including transphenoidal approaches for pituitary/sellar tumors and transbasal approaches for low anterior skull base pathologies
Treatment of hydrocephalus including advanced endoscopic approaches such as endoscopic third ventriculostomy and choroid plexus coagulation
Congenital diseases such as encephaloceles and spina bifida
Non-instrumented spine surgeries for spinal cord tumors, degenerative diseases (including slipped disc)
Functional open neurosurgical techniques such as microvascular decompression for trigeminal neuralgia and hemifacial spasms
Peripheral nerve surgeries like nerve and muscle biopsy, among others.
